Ministry of National Education (MEB) has recently made radical changes in school registration and dress code processes through digitalization steps and new regulations it has implemented. The new rules link class and teacher selection for parents to a lottery system. They also aim to prevent commercial practices related to school uniforms.
REGISTRATION AND CLASS ASSIGNMENT GO DIGITAL
Students’ schools, classes, and teachers are now automatically determined. This is done through the address-based registration system and lottery draws on e-School. This digitalization move aims to prevent abuses during the registration period. Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin stated there is no practice called “registration fee” in the legislation.
NEW RULES FOR SCHOOL UNIFORMS
New standards for school uniforms were set with a regulation published in the Official Gazette. The regulation prevents schools from making deals with specific stores for uniform sales. School logos or names cannot be mandatory on the clothes. The basis for garments is that they are simple, practical, and economical. An investigation is launched upon written complaint against school administrators who violate the regulation and direct students to specific stores.
